In 2017, we are celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Convention on Human Rights and Biomedicine (Oviedo Convention).
On this occasion, the Council of Europe organises on 24-25 October 2017, in Room 1 in the Palais de l'Europe in Strasbourg (France), an international conference on "20th anniversary of the Oviedo Convention: relevance and challenges".
We are pleased to invite you to participate to this conference which will be held under the auspices of the Czech Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. The objective of that conference is to examine the relevance of the principles laid down in the Convention with regard to developments in the biomedical field and possible human rights challenges raised by such developments. This conference is particularly important as it will provide the basis for a midterm Strategic Action Plan proposing a framework for the Council of Europe's action to address the human rights challenges raised by new technological developments in the field of biology and medicine and their impact on practices.
The working languages of the conference will be English, French, as well as passive Russian.
The conference will be live broadcasted and it will be possible to consult the video on our website (www.coe.int/bioethics ) following the event.
The conference will be open to the press. A mandatory registration form has to be filled in on our internet site by 15/09/2017.
